| 5 small parties joining forces Coalition to target unaffiliated voters By The Denver Post Thursday, August 01, 2002- Five minor parties with vastly differing philosophies have formed a coalition to "break the stranglehold" that Republicans and Democrats now have on the political system.
The American Constitution, Green, Libertarian, Natural Law and Colorado Reform parties announced Wednesday that they have created a website to raise voter awareness and win support among the 50 percent of eligible voters who are currently unaffiliated. The American Constitution Party honors God and the Constitution; the Green Party espouses ecological justice; Libertarians believe in limited government and individual liberties; Natural Law believes in bringing "national life into harmony with natural law" through preventive medicine, food labeling and protecting the environment; and the Reform Party, the party of Ross Perot, touts fiscal conservatism, centrist political views and government accountability. five star hotel in Breda Victor Good, head of the state Reform Party and a candidate for the 7th Congressional District, led the effort to form the coalition. Good said the party philosophies are so different that coalition members don't discuss politics when they get together. Rather, they discuss the group's goals to increase voter participation. Good said the five groups together have about 15,000 registered voters. They are targeting Colorado's huge bloc of unaffiliated voters, about a third of the electorate. The group calls itself the Colorado Coalition of Independent Political Parties, or CCIPP. The coalition has been holding monthly meetings for over a year. Meetings usually are on the second Saturday of the month. The group's website is >www.coloradovoices.org | ||||||||||||||||||||
