ARC Regular Monthly Ride
Our monthly ride is the first Saturday of themonth at 10:00 during the winter months, and we move it to 9:00 starting in May. Theride will be the Coweta County ride leaving from Moreland, GA. We will meet in frontof the Lewis Grizzard Museum. The fire station always has maps available for 12, 25,38 and 66 mile options. These are perfect roads for recumbents. The roads and scenery are thebest we've found anywhere! Very few cars and plenty of store stops available.
We will be announcing a place to eat afterwards.
Directions to the ride: Take I-85 South of I-285 for 30 miles to Exit 8.At Exit 8 go south on US 27/29 to Moreland. In Moreland take the first right to theMoreland Fire Station. The Museum is directly behind the Fire Station.
Remember, November through March we'll go at 10:00 AM, then April thru October at 9:00AM.
What IS ARC?
It stands for the Atlanta Recumbent Cyclists. That's recumbent, a revolutionary, butnot new, type of bicycle that we find more comfortable and in some forms much faster thanregular upright bicycles. We are a group of recumbent riders in the Atlanta area that, inaddition to riding with the "normal" cyclists around town, like to get togetherand ride with each other too.
PLUS, we love to talk about our machines and to evangelize the unwashed masses who havenot yet seen the light and converted to recumbentism. Just kidding--we're really not on acrusade. But if you're intrigued or curious about recumbents, any of us will be glad tochat with you about what we've learned and experienced.
There are lots of great resources on the web, too. Start with http://www.recumbents.com which is a great, umm, place to start. Lots of links to lots of recumbent manufacturers, races, dealers, etc.
November 6: What a ride we had today!! 40 miles of beautiful sunshine, temperature wasjust right, a great group of riders and we averaged 13.9. And flat all the way, well maybe a hill or two but who can remember.
We had 10 riders, Ralph - Tour Easy, Dick - Tour Easy, Richard - P38, Steve - VRex, Barb - Vision, Rob - Tailwind, Doug (all the way from South Carolina just for an ARC ride) - Ryan Longbike, Kevin and friend - Screamer, Mike - BikeE and yours truly - Gold Rush. We looked like the circus was coming to town!
I thought the route was pretty good. Smooth roads, no shake and bake, and beautiful scenery. We rolled out about 10:15 and it was already warming up. We passed an old rail bed that was just missed as a Rails to Trails addition. Next was a church that was 120 yrs. old. Our first store stop was in Senioa at 19 miles and none to soon. We were all ready for that one.About 8 miles later we stopped in Turin. As usual, a group of head scratchers gathered around wondering what kind of funny bikes we were riding. Turin was having some sort of market fair, we thought about you Donna Denny. We would have never gotten you out of there ha ha. Every shop had an outdoor display.
Leaving Turin I thought we only had 10 miles to go, but ended up being 13.
It was such a pretty day I didn't mind the extra few miles.
Of course I found a straight away with a little down hill and had to make a speed run. I was thinking about you Waldy, I know you would have been right there with me. I hit a big 30 mph and I was grinning from ear to ear. What a day! Next time let's shoot for twenty riders!!! Beautiful day, lots of great riders, it doesn't get any better than this! I believe we arrived in
Moreland around 1:45 - 2:00. With the time change it looked like 4:00.
I hope all of you that came had as much fun and enjoyed the ride as much as I did. Thanks again for the great turn out. I will be in touch for the next ARC ride. December 4th I will be out of town but if someone wants to email the group and ride please do. I have a map I can fax you. The Fire Station usually has maps for the 12 and 25 milers.

PS We will post pics out as soon as I get them developed. (Digital camera, Christmas list.) If others have pics, please send out to the group.
