NARC Training Rides

Now that the time has changed and the weather is better, there's no excusenot to be on the bike. And to help you out, check out all these NARC-related rides (and afew that aren't).

Sundays

Doug Piner (770-671-1481) is leading an (almost) weekly ride out ofDahlonega to climb in the North Georgia mountains. Piner's group usually splits up, withone group doing Six Gap, another Three Gap. Call Piner for start times and to make surethe ride is happening on any given Sunday.
Riders usually meet at Circle R Ranch.

Tuesdays

Join the NARC gang for the weekly training series at West Oak Office Park. This is a 1.4 mile circuit with two corners. It draws from 50-70 riders, and the pace isfast (average speed is around 24-27 mph). But the course is not technical, and droppedriders can jump back in at any time, so it's a
great ride to develop good riding skills in large groups as well as overall fitness. Theride starts at 6:30 p.m. and lasts one hour. For location or more details, call JohnMillsaps (770-952-4285).
Wednesdays It's not a NARC ride, but it's been around for a long time - the PeachtreeBattle ride. This ride starts at 6:30 p.m. from the school at the intersection ofPeachtree and Peachtree Battle in Buckhead. The course is hilly and the distance is about22 miles. This ride draws a large crowd,
and although the pace is fast, the ride breaks up into many groups of varying abilities.

Thursdays

Join NARC member Alan Gabrielli for a great ride in Cobb County. The rideis about 25 miles and starts at 6:30 p.m. Call Gabrielli at 770-422-0888 for directionsand details.

Saturdays

Tucker Ride: this Atlanta favorite leaves at 9:00 a.m. from Tucker HighSchool at La Vista Road and Main St. in downtown Tucker. It's a 42-mile loop that alwaysdraws a crowd.

Daily

One of Atlanta's favorite cycling venues is Columns Drive, located offJohnson Ferry Road at the Chattahoochee River. The five-mile, up-and-back road has beenfreshly paved and has good, marked bike lanes on both sides of the road. You'll always seecyclists, joggers and in-line skaters on Columns. It's not hard to show up and pick up acycling partner - or two or three. The course is flat, but if you need hills, head up theside roads for some leg-breaking climbing.
