OPEN HOUSE FOR CLASSES Visit us on Sunday, April 1 (no fooling this is not a joke!!) from 123 and check out all the spring classes. Samples will be up and supply lists ready. Some of the teachers will be available to answer questions and help you select fabrics for your class. Many classes fill to capacity on this date so dont miss out. (We do start taking class reservations ahead of time but dont guarantee samples and supply lists until April 1st.) STITCHES & BYTES PARTNER COMPANY Mr. Bytes, as hubby Dick is being called these days, is busy taking care of all types of computer and sewing machine needs. Dont forget to give both a little TLC. Sewing machines need a good cleaning every so often (at least once a year to keep them operating at peak efficiency) and computers also need occasional maintenance to speed them up and give you more working space. Give him a call at 847-838-4788 for your computer needs and you can drop machines off at the shop any time we are open. FOOD PANTRY DONATIONS Just a reminder we accept donations all year long. We also accept cash donations in the Jar on the checkout counter. Just your change can add up. Our total keeps growing and we are over $500.00. Hundreds of pounds of food and other items have been delivered to the food bank at the United Methodist Church. The church is one of the gathering places for the entire area. The winter months were devastating for families and when the weather gets nicer we tend to forget about the Food Pantry. PLEASE HELP keep the shelves stocked. Thanks. SURVEY RESULTS We received 34 surveys back from the Winter Gazette. Thanks to all who took the time to fill them out. Some results are as follows: - 24 have taken a class at QDI 10 did not
- 18 of the 24 finished the project 6 did not
- (Not bad considering how many projects we are all involved in!!)
- 11 would like to see doll or other soft sculpture classes 23 had no interest.
- (We wont be offering these in the near future but we may down the line.)
- 12 said yes to garment classes, 5 gave no answer and 17 said no. (We might do some vest classes and invite Bunny back to do more of her jackets.)
- 13 indicated that they do use specialty threads, 21 said they do not but 4 of those want to learn.
(This is definitely a field we will have to explore.) Again thank you for your help | SEW FOR A CURE This program has been available for a few years through the shop in Pearl City (Sew Many Antiques) and is now available through Quilters Dream. There are 16 shops participating. Each shop has a block pattern for sale for $1.00. That one-dollar is combined with others for a donation to Breast Cancer Research. After you purchase the block pattern (each shop has a different pattern and you can get one from each shop for one dollar each) you make a block from your own good fabrics and bring it back into the shop before October 1, 2001. You will receive a chance to win one of several bundles of blocks that will be raffled off in October. You not only help support the ongoing research but also get a chance to win enough blocks to make a quilt for you. All details are available at the shop. SPOOLS FOR RESEARCH In conjunction with the Sew for a Cure program Quilters Dream is collecting empty thread spools. We have a basket in the shop where you can drop them each time you are in. In October we will count them up and make a donation from the shop towards the Breast Cancer Research program. Our goal is to collect 1000 empty spools. So drop them off at the shop, send them with a friend, mail them to us or if you are a member of the Northern Lake County Quilters Guild bring them to a meeting and give them to Robin or me. FOURTH OF JULY QUILT We already have a few blocks for our 7th Independence Day Quilt. This year wed like to do a sampler quilt. If you would like to make a block you will need to stop in the shop to get complete instructions and a fat quarter of the common fabric. Blocks must be back in the shop by May 1, 2001 (extra month allowed!) to be considered for the Quilt. We will not be able to guarantee all blocks will be in the raffle quilt. Blocks not chosen for the raffle quilt will be made into a charity quilt and donated to a local organization. This year the proceeds of the raffle will be donated to the Food Pantry. WHAT A DIFFERENCE A SEAM MAKES Im often asked why we require you to bring your own machine to class. There are two samples of the mini-bargello hanging in the shop. Each was made on a different machine using that machines ¼" foot. Strips were cut the same the only difference was the machine! |
