Transcriber's note: Not a lot of skating talk, but the interview does showcase Todd's wonderful sense of humor. There was also a lot of talking over each other so it was difficult to transcribe.

John Lander: OK, welcome in Todd Eldredge, he's here?

Todd Eldredge: Hi, guys.

discount hotels in Schwechat John Lander: Welcome to Mix. We uh, you had a dinner last night with one of our winners didn't you, huh.

Todd Eldredge: Yes I did.

John Lander: At the Boston Harbor Hotel, that's a great place, right on the water.

Todd Eldredge: Fantastic.

John Lander: You had a little extra, about an hour of daylight in the evening, so..

Todd Eldredge: Right, right, yeah.

John Lander: So it must have looked nice right on the water.

Todd Eldredge: Yeah it was beautiful.

Lynn Good conversation though

Todd Eldredge: Oh yeah, yeah, it was great, she was a dietitian, so we talked about how bad my diet is. (Laughter).

Lynn Hoffman: No way.

John Lander: She's nagging you while you're eating your dinner, "Be sure to eat that there's a lot of cholesterol in that."

[non-TE stuff]

John Lander: Yeah but, Todd, you burn off every calorie you probably inhale right?

Todd Eldredge: Pretty much so, yeah.

Lynn Hoffman: How many cal.... Is it... Do you find out exactly what you burn when you're doing a whole session, when you're...

Todd Eldredge: I have no idea. (laughing).

Lynn Hoffman: I know basketball players who have lost pounds during a game.

Todd Eldredge: Oh, I believe it, yeah.

John Lander: Well, Todd's here, he'll explain what's going on here this week with the John Hancock Champions on Ice, here for the 1999 Summer Tour at the FleetCenter. Everybody's been bugging us for tickets, Lynn, you know that.

Lynn Hoffman: I know.

John Lander: I've been getting a lot of voice mails, hard luck stories, you know, they're typical. Todd, you hear them all, right?

Todd Eldredge: Oh yeah.

John Lander: And Todd is also very local, he grew up in the Cape Cod area, South Chatham, right?

Todd Eldredge: Right.

John Lander: So we'll talk about that and people will be calling in from Chatham to say hi. So, uh, but let's talk about your birthday. Todd Eldredge, born August 28. Is that right?

Todd Eldredge: That's right.

John Lander: Well, let's see what happens, cause we're about to play the Million Dollar Birthday Game, and we'll let Todd help us out.

[non-Todd stuff]

John Lander: Yeah, here he is, he's all dressed for figure skating, (laughter) Ladies and gentlemen, Todd Eldredge from Chatham. And is this right, your dad was a fisherman down there?

Todd Eldredge: Yeah, he still is actually.

John Lander: He's still a fisherman.

Todd Eldredge: Yeah.

?? It's a big business down there.

John Lander: So when he goes out, does he go out for a long time?

Todd Eldredge: Uh, no he doesn't do, he used to go out and do a couple day trips, but now he doesn't do that anymore.

John Lander: And who does he sell them to?

Todd Eldredge: Just the local markets.

John Lander: Local markets, that's cool, what's his name.

Lynn Hoffman: I bet he'd know about smelting.

John Lander: Yeah, Lynn, Neil went smelting down there.

Todd Eldredge: I have no idea, I never did it. (Laughter)

Lynn Hoffman: You grew up on the Cape?

John Lander: He's not the fisherman in the family, it's his dad. So you had no interest in fishing.

Todd Eldredge: No, no.

Lynn Hoffman: Just wanted to skate over the fish.

Todd Eldredge: Yeah.

John Lander: All right, so, let's get down to this, somebody on the phone wants to win $1,000. Now the next button we hit down, you'll start with 15, Todd.

Todd Eldredge: Hi you're caller 15.

15: Oh, caller 15.

Lynn Hoffman: And you say, sorry.

Todd Eldredge: Sorry.

Lynn Hoffman: Go ahead.

Todd Eldredge: Hi, you're Caller 16.

Caller 16: Nooo, no, no no.

John Lander: It's going to be worse on the next one.

Todd Eldredge: Hi, you're caller 17.

Caller 17: Oh, you've got to be kidding.

John Lander: This is sad.

Caller 17: Don't I get anything?

John Lander: Yes, our undying love.

Lynn Hoffman: You're talking to Todd Eldredge.

John Lander: Craig, can you give her a shower cap.

Caller 17: Yeah.

John Lander: Hold on.

Todd Eldredge: Hi, you're caller 18.

John Lander: You're caller 18.

Caller 18: No way.

John Lander: You won.

Todd Eldredge: You win $1,000.

Caller 18: Wow, cool

John Lander: We're playing the tag game and you are it.

Caller 18: I can't believe I got through.

John Lander: You made it, you won $1,000.

Caller 18: Great.

John Lander: So you hang on the line, because I'm coming back, we're going to have Todd Eldredge, we're going to have a celebrity like this, a figure skater that you've seen on TV,

Caller 18: Yeah.

John Lander: He is going to cut open your envelope.

Caller 18: Cool.

Lynn Hoffman: With his skate.

John Lander: And see if. (Laughter) So, let me hear it. Mix 985.

Lynn Hoffman: We are here with Todd Eldredge visiting us this morning, he's helping us with the Million Dollar Birthday gift. Thank you very much and he's got the magic envelope in his hands and he's ready to open it up.

Caller 18: I hope it matches.

Lynn Hoffman: Yes, now, hold on while he... because this is his first time opening this and it's not easy is it, Todd?

Todd Eldredge: No, it isn't.

Lynn Hoffman: It's sealed up there and he's cutting through now with his skate. (Laughter)

John Lander: What's your name?

Caller 18: Katie.

Lynn Hoffman: Katie, all right, ask her, ask away.

Todd Eldredge: Is your birthday in October?

Caller 18: No.

Todd Eldredge: Aw.

Lynn Hoffman: Katie.

John Lander: When.

Caller 18: It's in March.

John Lander: March what?

Caller 18: March 17.

John Lander: March 17, I'm so sorry, well what am I saying sorry, you won $1,000. Nothing to feel sorry about.

Caller 18: No.

John Lander: What town?

Caller 18: Marlboro.

John Lander: All right, hold on.

[non-Todd stuff]

John Lander: Linda's on the phone wanting to talk to Todd Eldredge. Hi, Linda.

Lynn Hoffman: Hey, Todd, how are you doing?

Todd Eldredge: Okay.

John Lander: Linda, if you remember, drove the taxicab, remember when she drove you right into the FleetCenter up a ramp?

Lynn Hoffman: The wooden ramp.

Todd Eldredge: All right, yeah.

Linda: You remember?

Todd Eldredge: Oh my god, the wooden ramp. (Laughter)

John Lander: The wooden ramp from hell.

Linda: Like I told them, if I was going to go out, I was going to go out with some of my idols, you know.

Todd Eldredge: Laughter.

John Lander: So you remember that night?

Linda: I do, well I went into work yesterday and was telling everybody about it. I'm always talking about Mix anyway.

John Lander: Well who was yelling at you to drive up. It was like a plywood or wooden ramp, right?

Linda: It was Elvis Stojko and Nicole and Todd, actually. They were all going, "you can do it, you can do it."

Lynn Hoffman: You were egging her on to drive up a rickety ramp in to the old Garden just before.

Todd Eldredge: Oh yeah.

Linda: The only bad part was I had to go back down alone.

John Lander: Yeah, you had to back out of there, right?

Linda: Everybody at work is making me call because of the lady there's been trying to get tickets. So are you guys going to be giving any tickets out or...

John Lander: For uh, I'm sorry for the FleetCenter?

Linda: Champions on Ice.

Todd Eldredge: Oh yeah.

John Lander: I don't know, Jim Delaney, I think it's, is it sold out?

JD: Not sold out yet, no.

John Lander: No? There's...

Lynn Hoffman: Close.

JD: 931-2000. (Laughter)

JD: Todd's got some tickets in his pocket right here.

John Lander: Oh wow.

Lynn Hoffman: Cool.

JD: A couple of four packs.

John Lander: Linda, do you want to go see Todd.

Linda: I would love to.

John Lander: Sure, well you should if you drove him in a cab.

Linda: I'll have to share it with this lady I work with, big kid, she's been nagging me all day yesterday.

John Lander: Well, that's such a great story.

Linda: Oh, I've been dying. It's true.

John Lander: How many years ago was that?

Linda: What was it about 4 or 5, Todd?

Todd Eldredge: It's been about 4 years ago.

John Lander: Just before they tore the Garden down, yeah.

Todd Eldredge: Yeah.

Linda: And you know Paul Wylie?

Todd Eldredge: Yeah.

Linda: His fiancee just came into where I work to get her wedding gown, too.

Todd Eldredge: Wow.

John Lander: Boy, your fate is intertwined with those of the figure skaters.

Linda: And you don't know when I had it out with Nancy Kerrigan once, too, driving.

Lynn Hoffman: Oh man.

John Lander: What, how did, how was it that you were the cab driver on record for all these figure skaters?

Linda: I, it just happened that, I was at the Four Seasons and ..

John Lander: Oh I see.

Linda: I've been watching figure skating since I was like, when I could walk.

Lynn Hoffman: I've got to tell you.

John Lander: If you're a cabbie and you hang out at the Four Seasons you're going to see a lot of celebrities, right?

Linda: You do, yeah.

Lynn Hoffman: My mom always thought, always thought I was going to be a figure skater. When I was little that's all I used to watch, Dorothy Hamil and the whole thing. But I ended up growing up to be a klutz so, I'm trying to stay far away from Todd's feet cause I'm going to end up stepping on him.

Linda: He's magnificent he really is.

John Lander: Hold on, Linda.

Linda: Great.

John Lander: Somebody here.

Lynn Hoffman: How do you do those spins, without falling on the ground, that's what I always wondered. Those fast spins.

Todd Eldredge: Lots of practice.

Lynn Hoffman: Oh (appreciative)

John Lander: Hi Carol. Is Carol still there? Hello, Carol.

Carol: Yes, hi.

John Lander: Hi, say hi to Todd.

Carol: Hi, Todd

Todd Eldredge: Hi, Carol.

Carol: I can't believe this, I have never gotten through in my life. I'm in a state of shock right now. Well, we have the same birthday.

Todd Eldredge: Really?

Carol: August 28. What year?

Todd Eldredge: 71.

Carol: Ah 65.

Todd Eldredge: Oh.

John Lander: So you share a birthday with Todd Eldredge.

Carol: We share a birthday.

John Lander: That's awesome.

Carol: And we both grew up on the South Shore.

John Lander: Where were you?

Carol: I grew up in Holbrook but I live in Bridgewater now.

John Lander: Well, he was in Chatham, well, his dad still is, right?

Todd Eldredge: Right, my parents still live there.

John Lander: Well, where do you live, personally?

Todd Eldredge: I live in Michigan, near Detroit.

Lynn Hoffman: Michigan?

John Lander: Why?

Todd Eldredge: That's where my coach moved for training.

John Lander: Is that right?

Todd Eldredge: Yeah.

John Lander: Wow, does he coach anybody else or just you?

Todd Eldredge: He coaches actually Nicole Bobek who rode in the cab with us.

John Lander: Right up the ramp.

Todd Eldredge: Up the ramp. Uh, and he's coached a couple of other skaters as well.

John Lander: Wow, that's cool. Well, this is for the John Hancock Champions on Ice, the Summer Tour which is coming to the FleetCenter and like Jim Delaney just mentioned there are just a handful of tickets available if you want to get in.

Carol:. Well that would be wonderful, my kids would be delighted.

John Lander: All right, hold on, your last name was what?

Carol: Bey BEY.

John Lander: Well, all right, you hold on and it was nice talking to you and Todd and Todd tell everybody about what they can expect with the John Hancock Champions on Ice tour.

Todd Eldredge: Well, its uh, you've got a great cast, I mean all those people we talked about, Nicole and Elvis and Michelle Kwan.

Lynn Hoffman: Elvis is going to be there, too.

Todd Eldredge: Elvis will be in the building, yeah.

Lynn Hoffman: Whoa.

Todd Eldredge: And Michelle, Brian Boitano, Oksana Bauil. Yeah, it's a super cast and this coming here is kind of toward the beginning of our tour. We start on Friday and we hit here next week and then go until June 18.

Lynn Hoffman: Oh wait I've got a question for you. When you're skating competition, now not these skates where you know it's for show and stuff. When you're in competition, have you ever seen massive cat fights with the girls. I heard that they don't get along. I mean, tell me who is fighting with who and is everyone really as nice.

Todd Eldredge: Well, unfortunately I've never been able to get in the girls locker room, but... (lots of laughter). I've heard that's where it goes on, but, no.

Lynn Hoffman: Really, seriously?

Todd Eldredge: I haven't seen any of that but.

Lynn Hoffman: Competitive stuff or...

Todd Eldredge: I mean everybody's kind of focused on what they have to do and I don't. I don't know if there are any cat fights going on.

Lynn Hoffman: The guys don't get in to it either?

Todd Eldredge: Nah.

Lynn Hoffman: Like they don't, yeah, you're gonna fall and I'm going to beat you.

Todd Eldredge: No, there's nothing like that.

John Lander: You know who Lynn likes, Lynn likes that one, who was stealing everything. Which one was that? Nicole.

Lynn Hoffman: Oh no, was she in trouble a long time ago.

Todd Eldredge: Yeah, yeah, it was a goofy thing, whatever.

Lynn Hoffman: Well I'm glad that she's back though, the Campbells soup commercial.

Todd Eldredge: Yeah, she's doing great.

Lynn Hoffman: She doing great so that's awesome.

John Lander: So did your dad like smell when he came home? (Laughter)

John Lander: Well, no, if you're a fisherman, right?

Todd Eldredge: Well, he used to get in the shower right away, let's put it that way.

recensioni sugli alberghi Hvolsvollur John Lander: Cause that's hard to lose, that.

JD: You had a back entrance for him.

John Lander: Your mom out there hosing him down, oh no I can still smell it.

Todd Eldredge: They installed a shower outside.

John Lander: So where's, well if he was in the fish business, where's a good place to eat. Tell everybody cause the invasion of Cape Cod is about to take place because the weather, look at the weather.

Todd Eldredge: Ah, this is beautiful.

John Lander: So where's a good place to eat when you go to Chatham.

Todd Eldredge: A good place to eat in Chatham, gosh.

John Lander: Oh, what's that place right on the...

Lynn Hoffman: Chatham Bar's Inn.

Todd Eldredge: Chatham Bar's Inn.

John Lander: It's beautiful.

Todd Eldredge: Yeah, that's a great hotel.

Lynn Hoffman: Do you have like pull there, could you call, yeah this is Todd I'm going.. No problem, Todd. Because it's so booked. You can't get a room.

Todd Eldredge: I don't think I could get a room either.

John Lander: Is it like a hotel and a restaurant.

Lynn Hoffman: It's very upper.

Todd Eldredge: Yeah.

Lynn Hoffman: It's like a resort that you would find on a tropical island somewhere right in Chatham.

JL Well, thanks for being here, Todd.

Todd Eldredge: Sure, yes, it's been fun.

John Lander: Jim Delaney, thanks for the tickets from the FleetCenter. The date that it starts please again one more time.

Todd Eldredge: Oh, April 18.

John Lander: April 18 for the John Hancock Champions on Ice.
