Disappearing Inc. Supports Microsoft in Launch of Office XP

Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook Makes Disappearing Email Available to Customers

REDMOND, Wash. and SAN FRANCISCO-May 31, 2001-Disappearing Inc., a provider of corporate policy management systems, announced its participation in today's launch of Microsoft Office XP.

Disappearing Inc.'s policy management system, Disappearing Email Policy Manager, helps enterprises manage the risks associated with unwanted email archives by creating messages in a digital version of disappearing ink. Email is easy to distribute and nearly impossible to erase, and inappropriate use, uncontrolled distribution, and oversized archives puts corporations at risk. Liabilities aside, just complying with email discovery requests costs companies millions of dollars. Disappearing Email for Microsoft Outlook is a plug-in that allows corporations to set and enforce email retention policies necessary to manage these risks.

"Email archives constitute a major part of a company's data, and we believe Disappearing Email's ability to control messages will be increasingly important to companies concerned about their email policies," said Jeff Olund, general manager of Office eServices at Microsoft Corp. "We think Disappearing Email provides important new capabilities for Microsoft Office XP users."

Disappearing Email is available via the Tools on the Web site, reached through a Microsoft Office XP toolbar link to connect customers to different Web services. In addition, Disappearing Inc., a Microsoft eServices partner, has implemented the Microsoft Passport Single Sign-in Service in its Web site registration process.

"Successful companies control their assets. Disappearing Email provides an easy-to-use, policy-based solution for efficiently and effectively controlling email and other electronic assets," said Mike Burkland, chairman, president and CEO of Disappearing Inc. Available in Microsoft Office XP, Disappearing Email gives companies the ability to manage and control email archives without compromising employees' ease of use of email or requiring changes to companies' IT infrastructures."

The Disappearing Email Policy Manager works with a company's existing email system, and allows companies to control the operation of the Disappearing Email client software. A consumer version of Disappearing Email for Microsoft Outlook is now available free of charge on the Microsoft Tools on the Web site http://office.microsoft.com and Disappearing Inc. http://www.disappearing.com Web site, and is compatible with both Outlook 98 and Outlook 2000.
