Omniva Policy Systems Announces Strategic e-Policy Advisory Board

Policy Experts to Help Customers Reduce Risks of Unmanaged Distributed Electronic Assets

SAN FRANCISCO-July 31, 2001-Omniva Policy Systems Corporation (formerly Disappearing Inc.), provider of policy management solutions for email and other distributed electronic assets, today announced the creation of an e-policy advisory board.

Drawing from a distinguished list of legal, records and policy management visionaries, Omniva's e-policy board members represent a broad range of expertise in intellectual property, legal risk management, computer forensics, corporate email policies, records management, and protecting electronic assets. Their diverse perspectives and years of experience will provide the Omniva executive team with necessary insight into the issues affecting the risks and management of email and other electronic assets.

"Our software is the first to give businesses the ability to control the risks associated with unmanaged email and other electronic documents," said Mike Burkland, Omniva's chairman, president and CEO. "The perspectives of the e-policy board members will enable us to anticipate enhancements in our software necessary to meet specific customer requirements in what is an evolving, rapidly changing market. Their cross-functional, external perspectives will be important to ensuring the relevancy and timeliness of our solution."

"Omniva is addressing a broad range of legal, management and technical concerns that are of growing importance to large enterprises," said Advisory Board chairman, Partner at Foley & Lardner and noted author, Michael Overly. "Businesses have been living with the problem of unmanaged email for years. I am excited about the opportunity to help the Omniva team address this void in the marketplace and provide a workable way for corporations to begin to address the growing risk of uncontrolled electronic assets."

The e-Policy Advisory Board includes:

Joan Feldman, president, Computer Forensics Inc.
Joan Feldman is a prominent computer forensics practitioner who advises companies on how to retrieve email that has been "erased." She is a former litigation and records management consultant, and has more than twenty years of technical and management experience in computer forensics and litigation. Feldman founded Computer Forensics, a Seattle-based consulting firm, in 1994.
Nancy Flynn, managing director, e-Policy Institute
Nancy Flynn conducts e-policy seminars, netiquette programs and electronic writing workshops. As a recognized electronic communications expert, she has been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio and the Associated Press. She is the author of The $100,000 Writer, The ePolicy Handbook and the coauthor of Writing Effective E-mail.
Michael R. Overly, partner, Foley & Lardner
Michael R. Overly is an information technology attorney in Los Angeles, California. His practice focuses on counseling clients regarding technology licensing, copyright law, electronic commerce, and Internet and multimedia law. Overly speaks and writes frequently on the legal implications of technology in the workplace, electronic commerce, email, and electronic evidence. He has written numerous articles on these subjects and has authored chapters in several treatises. Overly is the author of the best selling e-policy: How to Develop Computer, Email, and Internet Guidelines to Protect Your Company and Its Assets (AMACOM 1998) and Overly on Electronic Evidence (West Publishing 1999).
Mark S. Vitalie, senior manager, Ernst & Young LLP

Vitalie, [full title/division] (CRM), a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young LLP's Litigation Advisory Services group, specializes in helping organizations with all aspects of document, records and information management involving paper-based and electronic documents and records. He assists organizations, their law departments and law firms with developing technology solutions for complex legal management issues. Vitalie has spoken regularly on the topics of records management and technology since 1992. His recent presentations have focused on integration of electronic records management technologies (e.g. messaging, document management, and records management applications), mitigating the risks associated with the maintenance of electronic records.

Company Also Unveils New Product and Corporate Identity

The company also announced today the availability of its Policy Manager 3.0 software, and unveiled its new corporate name and identity, Omniva Policy Systems. Omniva's Policy Manager enables companies to manage and protect electronic assets, such as email archives, and to set policies that limit their legal risks and reduce the risk of unwanted disclosure of proprietary information. With Policy Manager, corporations can now retain control of company email messages after they have been sent, and can limit recipients' ability to cut, copy, paste, and print messages.

Omniva VP of marketing and business development, Allison Wing, stated that the name change clarifies Omniva's product offerings and benefits to customers. "Ensuring that all copies of electronic assets can be controlled according to corporate policy means more than deleting unnecessary emails, and our new name reflects that," said Wing. "While we have loved the clever 'Disappearing Inc.' name, its limited descriptive ability was increasingly confusing for our customers. We have received great feedback and support from our partners and customers, and are very excited about this change."
