Omniva Policy Systems Ships Enterprise Product, Policy Manager

Omniva Corp., Formerly Disappearing Inc., Announces Support for RIM's Blackberry

SAN FRANCISCO-July 31, 2001-Omniva Policy Systems, formerly known as Disappearing Inc., today announced immediate availability of its enterprise product, Policy Manager 3.0, which enables companies to implement electronic policies necessary to control distributed electronic assets, including email and messages sent over wireless networks. The company also unveiled its new corporate name and identity, Omniva Policy Systems, replacing Disappearing Inc.

"For every email message sent, multiple copies are automatically created and saved in locations over which companies have little or no control," said Mike Burkland, Omniva's chairman, president and CEO. "These unmanaged electronic assets create enormous legal and financial risks for companies. The Omniva Policy Manager enables companies, for the first time, to centrally define, implement and enforce e-policies across the company that will manage these important assets without compromising the productivity of their employees."

Featuring the company's well-known "Disappearing Email" deletion policy, Omniva's Policy Manager allows corporations to implement policy-based control that dramatically reduces the corporation's risks and is still easy to use. Specifically, the Policy Manager product suite includes a Policy Studio for defining and implementing e-policies, a Policy Agent for Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes, a powerful back-end Policy Server for transparently enforcing e-policies, and a Policy Monitor for tracking and reporting company-wide e-policy compliance. Recipients of Policy Mail do not need any special software.

Omniva's Policy Manager also includes support for Research in Motion's line of wireless email products with the Omniva Policy Gateway for Blackberry. According to Burkland, "Corporate usage of wireless email products like Blackberry has skyrocketed as companies have recognized the need for email to be available and easy to use wherever and whenever employees want or need to use it." He added, "Extending the reach of Policy Manager to wireless users is really just about being responsive to our customers' needs."

Mark S. Vitalie, CRM, a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young LLP's Litigation Advisory Services group, and a member of Omniva's e-Policy Advisory Board said, "Helping our clients to mitigate legal risks and exposures associated with mismanaged or uncontrolled records is a primary goal for Ernst & Young's Litigation Advisory Services group, and key to that is working with our clients to develop and implement policies and systems governing the use of e-mail and electronic documents." He added, "Policy Manager is an important tool because it is the first solution that provides an easy and effective way for companies to put e-policies into practice."

As an added technological benefit for corporations using Outlook and Exchange, Policy Manager also offers automatic space reclamation from mail servers and PCs-enabling fast, efficient, centralized server capacity optimization and storage cost savings.

Additionally, the company unveiled today its new corporate name, Omniva Corp. The shift to the new name and identity from Disappearing Inc. to Omniva Policy Systems will allow the company to better communicate the breadth of its policy-management solution.

"While we have loved the clever 'Disappearing Inc.' name, its limited descriptive ability was increasingly confusing for our customers," said Allison Wing, Omniva VP of marketing and business development. "Our name more accurately and completely reflects what we offer: a comprehensive policy management solution that enables corporations to define, implement and enforce a broad range of policies necessary to control distributed electronic assets such as email. In other words, our solution is about much more than deleting unnecessary emails. We have received great feedback and support from our partners and customers, and are excited about this change."

About Policy Manager 3.0

Omniva Policy Manager enables companies to set and enforce email policies, and provides central, consistent control over email messages and documents without compromising user productivity. Policy Manager 3.0's primary components are:

Omniva Policy Client
Omniva Policy Client, an unobtrusive add-in to users' email software, performs encryption and decryption functions and allows users to select retention and other security settings for each message they compose. A Policy Client for Microsoft Outlook is available today and a Policy Client for Lotus Notes will be available soon.
Omniva Policy Server
The Omniva Policy Server creates and manages the policy keys based on corporate and retention policies. The Omniva Policy Server is built to provide random keys on demand and to make sure these keys cannot be retrieved when their lifespan is over.
Omniva Universal Viewer
The Omniva Universal Viewer is a technology that allows a recipient to view a message in their email without installing the Omniva Policy Client or any other software. By using the recipient's internal browser and the Universal Viewer, which runs on a web server, the message displays like a normal email within the normal message window.
Omniva Policy Studio
Omniva Policy Studio is a browser-based application (using current JavaServerPages technology) through which policy administrators define, establish and modify retention policies based on corporate policies. The Omniva Policy Client will automatically use these policies after they have been created. Omniva Policy Studio sessions are carried over SSL connections and support a variety of functions.
Omniva Policy Monitor
Omniva Policy Monitor allows periodic inspection of system activity and policy enforcement, including an audit trail of administrator actions. All monitoring reports can be reviewed onscreen or sent out by email. A SSL connection is used for all Omniva Policy Monitor sessions.
Omniva Space Reclamation Service
For networks using the Microsoft Exchange Server, the Omniva Space Reclamation Service deletes messages that have expired, reclaiming disk space and improving the speed of client-server synchronization. In other words, our Space Reclamation Service helps keep your Exchange Server free of expired messages.
Omniva Policy Gateway (for Blackberry)
For companies using the Blackberry for wireless access to email, the Policy Gateway for Blackberry allows universal viewing of policy messages on the Blackberry handheld. With the policy gateway, a policy message received on a Blackberry is the same as any other email received on the Blackberry except that the message will expire from their Exchange inbox when it reaches the end of its useful life based on the retention policy applied to it. The Policy Gateway for Blackberry is installed along with the Blackberry Enterprise Server and is typically maintained by the mail administrator.

Omniva Policy Manager is available now. List price starts at $70,000 for up to 1000 users.
