PELPHREY CALLS FOR TIMELY ELECTION
Urges Gingrich, Governor, Secretary of Stateto Ensure Continuous 6th DistrictRepresentation
Sixth District Congressional candidate Gary Bats Pelphrey today called on Rep.Newt Gingrich to serve his constituents one final time by making his retirement officialimmediately, so that the voters can elect a new Representative in time to serve for thewhole 106th Congress.
Pelphrey also urged current Georgia Governor Zell Miller and Secretary of State LewisMassey to work with Gingrich, and schedule a special election by the end of the year.
The people have done what was required to preserve their voice in a government thatis supposed to belong to them, Gary stated. Now, especially in theseextraordinary circumstances, it is time for our elected officials to put aside any and allpartisan differences, and work for the good of the people.
Once Gingrich officially resigns from the House, Governor Miller has ten days to sendMassey a schedule for a special election to fill the vacancy. That election cannot takeplace until at least 30 days after it is called.
We have no time to spare if we want to ensure the continuity of representativegovernment for the citizens of the Sixth Congressional District, Pelphrey declared.
Gary announced his continued candidacy in a press release yesterday.
