Mercantile Bankshares Corporation, on behalf of its members, utilizes several different types of technology and procedures in an effort to safeguard the confidentiality of your transactions. These technologies and procedures are designed to protect your information regardless of how you access your account information or transact business. Access Codes The first layer of security for our online services is provided through the use of Access Codes, e.g., ID and Personal Identification Code (PIC). These are your private keys to your account information. Do not reveal your PIC to anyone, including bank employees. Be sure to keep your PIC a secret. Memorize it and, if you need to keep a written record of it, store it away from your computer. Do not carry it in your wallet. Make sure no one watches you enter it into your phone, the ATM or your computer. Bank employees will never ask for your PIC. If you suspect that someone knows your PIC, you should change it immediately and report any unauthorized activity to the bank. Encryption Encryption is used whenever you access personal information through our online financial services. Specifically, the personal and account information that flows back and forth between our systems and the ATM or your personal computer is encrypted while in transit. Bank Procedures Internal procedures control every aspect of bank administration from training employees to confirming customer transactions to preventing service interruptions. Employees have access to your information only on a need-to-know basis. Routers and Firewalls A system of routers and firewalls also provides security. Filtering routers verify the source and destination of each transaction. Firewalls shield the bank's internal systems from outside sources. Through these systems, internal accounts are protected from outside access, and the structure of the bank's internal networks is invisible to outside observers. In addition, all of the information is housed in secured facilities with back-up power sources to ensure continuous operation. Recordkeeping System and application activity logs are other mechanisms we use to protect our systems and your information. These logs are reviewed regularly, and any abnormalities or discrepancies are investigated thoroughly and corrected. Security technology is continuously evolving, and we are constantly evaluating our security architecture so that we can provide customers with the highest level of protection. |
