Windermere cheap hotelsVancouver too much for youthful Surrey

July 2, 2002
Vancouver Thunderbirds - 5
Surrey United - 0

The powerful Vancouver squad proved too much for the youthful Surrey United squad to handle. Vancouver UBC fielded a very strong team of junior and senior varsity players and even elected to play, Ex Vancouver Whitecap/86er Chris Franks for the whole 90 minutes.

Surrey were trailing 4 - 0 at the half but regrouped and held Vanvouver UBC to one goal by Chris Franks in the second half.

"They were a little bit more than we could handle with the young players that we have right now" said GM Geoff McCormick. "We took a lot of positives from the game though, we tried to play a short passing game to keep possession and showed that we could do that, our players did not get intimidated by Vancouver's size, speed and power" "We could not have asked any more of our players they gave 100% and played as well as they could"
