Rider's Comments: The Chicago & Joliet Electric Railway Companybuilt the Dellwood Park in 1906 to increase the number of railway riders. A boathouse, dance hall, grandstand for races, merry-go-round, open-air theater, restaurant, and otherattractions made this a popular spot for thousands of annual visitors from Chicago until afire destroyed many of the buildings in 1930.
Today the park has 2 miles of asphalt and crushed gravel pathways as well as a performingarts center, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, and ball fields. A 1-mile asphalt trail loopsaround the ball fields. Another 1 mile of gravel and crushed limestone trail runs up anddown the hills and ravines near Fraction Creek. Be careful on the gravel trails. Walk yourbike down the steep hills. Water, shelters, picnic tables, and restrooms are available atthe park.
