Programs & Services

The Rainwater Observatory and Planetarium is open during scheduled events or by appointment. We offer free tours, astronomy slide shows, lectures, and/or planetarium shows for over 150 school and civic groups each year.

Other services and programs we offer:

• If you have need of a program for a civic club we can arrange to come to present a variety of programs (e.g. about the observatory or current events in astronomy).
  
  
• If you wish to have a group view the heavens through a telescope and can't come to us, we have some portable telescopes we can bring to your school, library, or scout camp.
  
  
• Seasonal Backyard Astronomy -- An informal introduction to the sky for individuals and families.
  
  
• Astronomy Workshops -- here and away.

Rainwater Astronomical Association (RAA) Meetings are on the second Friday of each month at 7:15 PM at the Observatory unless otherwise posted. New Moon Star Parties (Observatory open for observing) are on the Saturday near the New Moon each month all night.

These are planned events that are subject to change. Everyone, members and visitors are welcomed to attend. If you can't make any of these dates, contact us. We're open by appointment too!
