- As former Chief Justice Earl Warren commented: "All political ideas cannot and should not be channeled into the programs of our two major parties. History has amply proved the virtue of political activity by minority, dissident groups, which innumerable times have been in the vanguard of democratic thought and whose programs were ultimately accepted. The absence of such voices would be a symptom of grave illness in our society"
- Many Americans feel that government has grown into a self-serving, self-perpetuating partisan body that neither reflects nor recognizes their desires. Recent polls indicate that 86% of Americans feel that their elected officials will never solve the nation's problems, partly because political infighting has frozen the machinery of government. Consequently, the U.S. has the lowest voter turnout of any country in the world.
- Third political parties represent alternative views and solutions to the critical problems facing America today. If the Democrats or Republicans had the solutions to these problems, you think we would have heard about them by now. Perhaps it is time to allow others with alternative views to be heard. Perhaps it is time to allow other voices to be heard.
- What is your intention when you vote? Is your intention to create a better world by supporting what you want, by supporting what you believe in? Or are you settling for less than what you want, compromising your principles out of fear, compromising your beliefs and who you are? Will you vote for a candidate because they are the most popular, because you are afraid that the other candidate will get in, because that's the party your parents voted for? Or will you vote for a candidate because you believe in what they have to say, because you believe that they have the solutions, because you believe that they will truly represent who you are? Vote your hopes, not your fears.
The Immorality of Lesser Evilism - An article by Rabbi Michael Lerner on why voting for the lesser of two evils may do more to destroy the moral fabric and political viability of a democracy than any real or imagined evil.
